Yi Dao (Yi is prounounced like the letter E and Dao is prounonced like
Dow as in the Dow-Jones Index) is a team that was formed in 1998 by Sifu Vincent Hopkins. With a strong background in
Chinese martial arts, acrobatics and lion dancing, he produced a troupe that has gone on to perform at top level National
& International competitions. The troupe has also performed all over the Country at a wide array of events.
He is the sole UK representative of Sigung (grandmaster) Eu Choong
Seng (Yu Quan Sheng) of the Kwong Siew Wai Kuan (Cantonese Association), Malaysia. The troupe practise Hung Gar kung
fu, International competition Wushu, Dragon & lion dance and acrobatics.
The troupe competed at the 4th World Lion Dance Championships held at Genting Highlands in Malaysia during
July 2000, where they placed 13th out of 19 of the Worlds top teams. The team was the highest scoring western team (France,
USA) and scored higher than Japan & Thailand.
The team has also competed in Jingmen, China and won an award of merit. The team created a stir with the
local press as many of the local people have had very little contact with westerners. It was also the 1st time the team had
taken a 22 hour train trip.
